We are moving north quickly, and it is fast becoming c-o-l-d! We left Florida a couple days ago with it’s 90 degree F afternoons to wake up today with thick frost covering everything. No longer comfortable in our camping trailer, we now are scrunched up in the van seats and in our tent hidden in the woods behind the parking lot. There’s no room for all of us, and we are not yet all of us. The bus will be ready soon, and that will alleviate some space problems — but the bottom line is that we have to re-make many of our plans. Our situation has changed but our goals have not.

The cold reminds me of the plight of the homeless people around the country. Oppressed and repressed, homeless people face every day in winter as if it will be their last. Remember them, turn toward them, help them. They are your brothers and sisters. We are them.

Shiver

Feel the lonely kiss
of the icicle caress
of the maiden froze of frost
in the land where life is lost.

Did you know
birds have to
shiver
all night long
in order to live
through the night
every night
in winter?

Feel the icicle caress.

Did you know
people
who are homeless
shiver
all night long
in order to live
through the night
every night
in winter?

Feel where life is lost.

We did not make the One Billion Rising event, but I did my best to remain silent through a very tough day. The day after a crash is always tough — all the aches and pains surface, all the emotional and traumatic cracks are raw and sharp, all the hopes and dreams show the shatter. But we continue on . . . relentlessly, icorrigibly, creatively.

We are on our way to meet up with Occupy D.C. and join the Forward On Climate Rally on the 17th. Although the Sierra Club, 350.org and the Hip-Hop Caucus are all mainstream (i.e. tamed and domesticated) organizations, even they have come to the realization that they must get out of their comfort zones and take action to save the species. I do not expect anything from the organizers of this event, but I do hope it draws enough of us radicals that things get interesting. Still, a one-day event does little to change the world no matter how many people show up and remain orderly. You can dress up to protest in your suits and dresses and pretend that you have some standing in The System — but The System still laughs at you the same as it does us who have no suits or dresses.

The System’s War Plan: Isolate the radicals, identify the moderates, enable the moderates with money and followers, give careers to the moderates . . . . movement killed. Don’t fall for it. Don’t believe the bullshit.

What do you do after you’ve grabbed the bull by the horns? You don’t let go!
